Manatees are known to be at their favorite place...Crystal River on the northwest coast of Florida but are all over Florida and have been seen as far north as Maine.

In the past couple of months there has been six occasions where I noticed these gentle sea cows in the water. One canal off of the main canal and around the corner from the Yacht Club. Here are photos taken June 2008, a family of four came into the canal and left as a family of six. It was an awesome site to see the two little babies. I was delighted to watch them protect the babies and frolick in the water...YOU CANT SEE THIS IN NJ!!!   Manatees love fresh water and by putting your water hose in the water it attracts them. They open their huge mouths and I have seen them drink up to 45 minutes. Pretty funny when they roll over and just drink and drink and hang out behind your house for the day, it is simply AMAZING!
